Tally-Restaurants.com was created to provide Tallahassee residents with a place to check out what they’re friends and neighbors are saying about the local restaurant fair. Who knows these businesses better than the folks who eat in them every day? Through user submitted reviews and ratings we hope to connect diners with the best Tallahassee has to offer thereby promoting those restaurants that do shine so they stay around and prosper. So I guess it’s kind of a selfish mission, I like great food and hate to see a good restaurant close because nobody knew about it.

Born here in Tallahassee, I was raised on home-cooked southern food with “eatin’ out” reserved for the occasional weekend treat. As good as my mom’s cooking was there was nothing I looked forward to more than going out to dinner with my family. Dinner at home was always delicious and full of fun conversation – especially when one of my brothers had gotten into trouble at school – but was always much more formal than we (everyone but my dad) ever thought it needed to be.
Don’t get me wrong, my dad was fun at dinner and even told jokes to make us laugh (well, tried to) but we all knew there was a line and that we didn’t want to cross it. For some reason that all changed when we went out. He didn’t bug us (as much) about sitting up straight or the things he just generally called “cuttin’ up”. Heck, even his jokes were funnier. As close to a “date night” as my parents ever had, they both really seemed to enjoy having someone else wait on them for a change. It was a night off for the entire family.
Now I’m all grown up with a family of my own. Although the reasons for my admiration have shifted over the years, my love for the traditional “family night out” has not wavered. I’ve learned that the service is more important to me than the food these days (within reason), and the cost of your trip to a seafood restaurant skyrockets once you finally get your 5 year old to try the crab legs.
